Droughts are becoming more frequent in Portugal

Climate change is making droughts becoming more and more frequent in Portugal. But we wanted to check that with numbers.

Using the data from 36 weather stations between 1941 and 2012 and with the help of a study from “Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera” (IPMA), I’ve used d3.js to create a heatmap where we could see how frequent Droughts are becoming across the years.

Only between 1970 and 2012, more than the half of the portuguese territory registered eight drought sittuations.
